For a tall rider, the best Western saddle is not simply the largest seat available. You need enough room in the seat, enough fender and stirrup adjustment for your leg length, and a seat shape that lets you stay balanced without feeling cramped.
Height, weight, inseam, build, and riding style all matter. Two riders who are both 6'2" may prefer very different saddles.
Start With Seat Size, But Don't Stop There
A taller rider often prefers more room, especially for trail riding, but the seat still needs to fit the rider's body rather than height alone. A rider with a narrow build may be comfortable in a smaller seat than another rider of the same height.

Check Fender and Stirrup Length
This is one of the most important details for a tall rider. If the fenders cannot adjust long enough, the rider may feel pushed upward or cramped even when the seat itself feels right.
Different saddle makers and saddle types use different fender lengths and adjustment ranges, so this is worth checking before ordering.

Seat Shape Changes How a Size Feels
A deep-pocket trail seat can feel more secure and sometimes more compact than a flatter seat with the same stated size. Cantle height, seat rise, padding, and swell shape all change the usable room.
That is why we do not recommend choosing only from the number stamped on the saddle.
Consider the Horse at the Same Time
A taller rider may need a larger seat, but a short-backed horse may have limited room for a long saddle. In that case, look for a design that provides the rider room without adding unnecessary skirt length.
