Why Buy a New Western Saddle?
New saddles make the most sense when you need a specific seat size, tree, color, or model and want the broadest possible selection. Depending on the manufacturer, you may also have access to custom or special-order options.
A new saddle also gives you a known history from the beginning and, when applicable, the manufacturer's warranty.
Why Buy a Used Western Saddle?
Used saddles can offer more saddle for the budget. They can also be a good way to find discontinued models, broken-in leather, or configurations that are difficult to find new.

Then look at condition. Check the tree, leather, fleece, rigging, stirrup leathers, hardware, and overall wear. Cosmetic wear may be acceptable; structural problems are a different matter.
